The Metalunas - Interstellar Surf Party CD (Surf Cookie)
This great Canadian surf/instro combo led by guitarist Mark Brodie had a brief, but stellar run in the early 2000’s with three well-received albums, and then they disappeared. Brodie has continued playing over the years, but it’s great to see the release of this 14 song disc containing unreleased material. It’s packaged in a vibrant package with cover art depicting a group of aliens and earthlings dancing on a beach located on some other planet. The disc combines originals as well as a few covers, such as “Paradise Cove”, “High Wall” and “The Lonely Surfer” among others. While the songs don’t break much ground, it’s always a joy to listen to well-done, expertly performed songs firmly rooted in the early 60’s surf sound. The albums previously released were all solid, and this is a nice addition to the Metalunas legacy.
