The Bomboras - The Return Of The Up Up Sound CD-EP (MuSick)
This is what Bomboras fans have been waiting 23 years for - BRAND NEW RECORDINGS! The Bomboras (and their earlier incarnation as The Finks) were among the first bands I got into in the mid-90’s as I discovered surf/instro rock n’ roll - just the power, energy and sound of the guitars, organ, bass and drums - they could do pretty trad surf when they wanted, but a lot of the time they just hit you square in the jaw with fuzzy guitars and great lead organ work. Well now we have a new EP in the band, recorded after reuniting in 2018 and battling through the difficulty of the pandemic - and to sum it up, it will absolutely blow you away. It’s packed with reverb and mighty fuzz throughout. On the one hand, you could say they picked up where they left off - the songs here wouldn’t sound too out of place on their last LP, Head Shrinkin’ Fun! On the other hand, that would do this disc a disservice, as these recordings have more power, more thrust and more swagger than anything they put out before. It’s partly the production - done in drummer Dave Klein’s acclaimed recording studio in Los Angeles, CA. But they didn’t stop there - they brought in the big guns by having it mixed by Evan Foster of The Boss Martians at his world-famous No-Count studio in Seattle, WA and THEN it was given the magic touch, with Jack Endino mastering the tracks in his Seattle studio.
