The Babalooneys - Late to the Party! Vinyl LP (Hi-Tide)
Late to the Party is a trad surf album, with big fat sax, two reverbed guitars, bass, and a drummer that’s pushed to the back of the mix. The songs are short, melodic, and get to the point quickly. There’s only one vocal song, an excellent cover of the Trashmen’s "King of the Surf". Many songs, including "Oceanside", have a warm familiarity and I feel that they must be covers, yet they sound refreshingly new at the same time. The lead off track, "Sittin' On The Line", is a real standout, although, technically, it’s hot rod, not surf, because it uses dragster sound effects. Surf DJs, when you slot one of these songs in the middle of a set, be prepared for listeners to ask if it’s some obscure track off Legends of Surf, Volume 9.
Note: This is pressed on blue marble swirly vinyl and does not come with a download card. Comes with a limited edition pack of stickers.
