Martin Cilia - Everest CD (Surfersaurus)
Recorded during the pandemic, this eleven track collection is the one I’d recommend to instrumental guitar fans interested in hearing the versatility of this Australian guitarist and songwriter. It’s got everything - rock n’ roll, surf, blues and even a touch of metal. You’ll find brand new recordings along with some other unreleased tracks that Martin dug out of the vaults and cleaned up for this release. It has all of the hallmarks you’ve come to expect from a Martin Cilia release - great guitar work, melodic songs and clean, professional production. Standout tracks include “Dance Of The Dwarves” which has a Shadows vibe to it, with excellent interplay between the acoustic and electric guitars, “The Sandking”, which is probably the most “surfy” of the songs on the discs, and the closer, “Farewell Mr. Smith” which is just a classic ballad, seemingly influenced by The Shadows and Jack Nitzsche.
Tracks: Apartment 9B - Don't Pay The Ransom - Hillsdale - Scarborough Hotel - The Stryker - Fly By Night - Dance Of The Dwarves - Botany View - The Tunnel - The Sand King - Farewell (Mr Smith)
