Los Atarrayas - Premiere Vague CD (Surf Cookie)
The disc starts off with a sinister, post-apocolyptic drone, crackling with electricity and impending doom, but then swiftly launches into the powerful lead track “Dispersión de la Atarraya”. This song signals their intent - they are going to get right in your face with a twangy, reverb driven wall of sound on this disc. The second track shows a little more finesse, but still continues with a juggernaut of surf, splashed with punk/garage rock influences. And so it goes through the end of this disc, which in all actuality is somewhere between an EP and full-length album as it has 8 tracks. If you take out the intro, and the last track, which is a live version of “El Condor Pasa” (retitled “El Condor Surfa”), there are 6 new, studio tracks that are actual songs. However, those songs are all excellent, and the live track is a fun addition at the end. What’s interesting is that this band is a three-piece, with each member hailing from a different country: Colombia, France and Italy (they are based in Paris, France as a band).
Tracks: Mare Mosso - Dispersión de la Atarraya - Surfin' Loco - Squalo Fantasma - Transylvanian Beach Party - Rush For Gold - Shéhérazade - El Condor Surfa (live)
